Mila helps control sugar cravings

edwige_gilbert_wcreditsAs a specialist in stress management programs, I see a lot of clients affected by unhealthy eating habits, unproductive behaviors, and struggling with their weight.

Recommending Mila has been a blessing.  Within a week my clients report diminished sugar cravings and feeling more in control of their eating in addition to experiencing more energy and a positive attitude.

I have always believed in the power of the Omega 3’s, but Mila goes beyond that. It supplies the body with complete nutritional balance and is very useful for people who refuse to take vitamins, young and old.

I have also been taking Mila for the last 6 months and cannot do without it. I feel stronger, more focused and ready to conquer the world.

MILA all day every day

Jamey_Hanley_wcreditsLike other health professionals, I am frequently approached to represent or endorse various kinds of vitamins and other nutritional supplements or treatments, to which I usually say “no.” When Lifemax came around I was not looking for anything else to do. I was already very busy and not looking to add anything else to my already full plate. However, one thing I have learned over the past 20 years or so is that great opportunities are rare and maybe only come around once every decade. Therefore, I never close my mind to an opportunity but instead I always take a cursory look so I can at least feel good about saying “no.” The leadership at Lifemax combined with the company’s amazing healthy whole raw food, Mila, made it hard for me to say “no.” Consequently, “yes” was the only correct answer.

From a health and wellness perspective, Mila is simply amazing. This healthy whole raw food is quite literally helping so many people that it is becoming a movement in and of itself. As a dentist, I have seen patients exhibiting the signs and symptoms of conditions in their earliest stages. In many cases, significant improvement can be achieved by modifying the diet with Mila. The reason for this is because my extensive training and experience allows me to recognize the oral changes that are often the first sign of systemic illness. As an example, patients with undiagnosed diabetes will often have telltale signs such as “acetone breath.” Vitamin B deficiencies may cause halitosis, burning tongue, cracked lips and sores in the corner of the mouth. I believe that the nutrients in Mila are ideal for everyone and especially those with maladies and conditions such as these. This puts dentists in a unique position, among health care providers, to have a profound impact on our patients early simply by urging them to include Mila in their diet. On a personal level, my father died of complications from diabetes, so I know first hand the impact this disease can have and the importance of diet. It is because of my family history as well as my professional dedication and desire to help others that I recommend Mila all day every day with no reservations.

Mila’s Nutritional Content

OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS

MILA contains one of the highest, if not the highest, amounts of omega-3 fatty acids known in the plant world. In the 1970s and 1980s, the “fat-free diet craze took all the fats out of our diet, including the good ones.  Now we know that impact that healthy fats have on our general well-being.  The alpha linolenic fatty acid (ALA) found in Mila is known as the only essential omega-3 fatty acid. This means that a person must consume this fatty acid because the body cannot manufacture it.  The fatty acids in MILA are a near perfect balance, plus there is no cholesterol.

FIBER

A number of studies have found that a high intake of total fiber contributes to a healthy heart and circulatory system.  High-fiber diets may also modulate blood sugar levels. Since fiber is filling and has very few calories, high-fiber foods may also help with weight loss.

ANTIOXIDANTS & PHYTONUTRIENTS

These two components have recently been recognized as important to human health, but are not necessary for life.  Interestingly, phytonutrients may act as antioxidants, but not all phytonutrients are antioxidants. Antioxidants in foods can be divided into two main groups, with similar, as well as different, benefits to human health. These two groups are Vitamins & minerals and Phenolic Compounds.

PROTEIN

Protein is found throughout the body in hair, nails, outer layers of skin, muscle tissue, the inner structure of bones, and red blood cells. Protein is used by the body to perform many functions in the body including building & repairing body tissues, hormone production & carrying nutrients throughout the body. MILA is a great source of protein and contains both essential and non-essential amino acids.

Mila and Psychotherapy

dale_keeton_wcredits-213x300Following my personal experience with taking Mila, and the several positive effects noted, I began to research the effects of Omega-3 as it relates to mental health and was appalled with my ignorance!  Through a mutual friend, I was introduced to a research physician at NIH who specializes in Omega-3.  With his encouragement, I began an informal “anecdotal” experiment with a few of my patients who struggle with depression.  Each one of them reported improvement in mood within a week of consumption.  Three of them decided (without my recommendation) to stop taking their anti-depressant meds, and reported that they did just as well without them.  While I still do not advise patients to stop their medication, I believe at this point that Mila enhances the effectiveness of the meds.

In addition to the most common effects of Mila such as improved energy and gastro-intestinal improvement, I have had reports of lowered blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as a decrease in joint and muscle pain and weight loss.

A side benefit of Mila relates to the encouragement and hope that comes when long-term symptoms of physical and mental distress are diminished.  One couple came to see me recently with intense emotional, relational, and financial pressure.  Each presented an affect of hopelessness.  Following a general assessment and mental status exam, it was apparent that the husband had been experiencing life-long endogenous depression (and now, situational depression) and the wife had ADHD, neither of which had been diagnosed.  I referred them both to a psychiatrist for medical evaluations, but while waiting for their appointment date, they began taking Mila.  When I saw them the following week, he demonstrated more energy and optimism, and gave familiar reports of the positive effects of the grain.  She reported that she was focusing more clearly and really liked the changes she saw in her husband. More important than these reports, to me, was the renewed hope that their marriage could be saved and they could find a way to stabilize their financial situation.

MILA is the source of the only essential Omega-3 fatty acids

(Excerpts from a video discussion by Dr. Wayne Coates, the rediscoverer of Salvia hispanica L. in 1991, and the world’s foremost expert on the superfood commonly known as chia.)

Is Mila a good source of Omega-3’s?

“We hear a lot today of Omega-3’s, and there’s no question Omega-3’s in our diet are very important.  In fact, the problem today is that we’re eating a lot of Omega-6’s and not enough of Omega-3’s. We should be having close to 1:1 ratio.  many of us are getting 10:1 or 20:1 Omega-6’s to Omega-3’s.  So we need to increase our Omega-3’s

“Why are Omega-3’s important?

Heart health is one of the main things. There area number of sources of Omega-3’s and they’re definitely not all equal.

“MILA contains what is known as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).  It is the only essential Omega-3.

“There are also what is call long-chain Omega-3’s, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid).  They are not essential. And there is much discussion about where we should get our Omega-3’s from.

“The fish industry would lead you to believe that you should be eating fish oil or algae oil, which are the long-chain EPAs and DHAs.  That is not the case.  Those are not essential fatty acids.

Änd the reason is, our body takes the ALA, which is in the MILA, converts it into EPA and DHA. The big discussion is in how much can be converted. Can you convert enough?

“The fish industry could again say “no”, but that hasn’t been shown to be the case. If there is a confounding factor here, when our bodies convert the ALA to these long-chain (DHA and EPA), they use enzymes to do this.  Because we’re a lot of Omega-6’s, there’s a conflict because the body is fighting for these enzymes to convert the Omega-6’s to aracadonic acids, and also using the same ones to convert to EPA and DHA.

“So by cutting down the amount of Omega-6 in our diet, and upping the Omega-3 in th form of ALA, we get beter conversion, and your body will convert what you need.  You can always supplement if you feel it’s necessary, but it really has not been shown to be true.

“So, MILA is the source of the only essential Omega-3 fatty acids.”
